Chris Bowen, Minister for Climate Change and Energy, announced in early October that 72,000 Aussie homes have now taken advantage of the Cheaper Home Batteries program since 1 July 2025. Thousands more homes eagerly await installation as battery stock steadily rolls out. This is an enormous feat and one that is both unprecedented and mostly unexpected.
Interest in home energy storage has slowly grown since 2015, when battery storage technology first became readily accessible. The announcement of the federal battery rebate saw phones ringing off the hook as installers scrambled to keep up with demand. The writing was on the wall; electricity prices continue to soar while prolific blackouts and high solar uptake draw households to seek out personal energy storage.
GoodWe has been leading the home energy storage revolution as one of the preferred manufacturers for Aussie homes. With the Lynx F G2 battery in high demand, and the all-in-one ESA Series about to take pride of place in Aussie homes, let’s take a look at why Aussies are switching off from the grid and turning to batteries.
Growing desire for self-sufficiency
When solar PV systems made their way to Australian homes, households soon realised the potential of self-generation. Free electricity throughout the day and high feed-in tariffs for any excess sent to the grid. As feed-in tariffs dwindled, the logical evolution of the solar system was to add battery storage. For most, this was to remain a dream until battery prices came down.
Widespread blackouts caused by natural disasters and aging infrastructure was a watershed moment for many. Paying through the nose for electricity and then not being able to access it had many Australians looking for alternatives. It was the leaps and bounds in battery technology, and the final cost reprieve from the federal government, that finally saw the average household adopt home energy storage.
The shift to smarter, safer storage with the All-in-One ESA

Modern battery systems are no longer just backup power; they’re full home energy solutions. GoodWe’s ESA all-in-one hybrid system combines a 3–10 kW hybrid inverter and 5 & 8kWh battery modules with a maximum of 48kWh per stack in one streamlined unit. Designed for simplicity, the ESA offers plug-and-play installation, sub-4 ms switchover, and out-of-the-box whole-home backup.
For installers, it’s fast and fuss-free to commission. For homeowners, it delivers energy independence, lower bills, and reliable power even when the grid drops out. With six-layer protection, AI-driven AFCI 3.0, and 200 % PV oversizing, the ESA offers high performance, rock-solid safety, and smart energy management in a single tower.
GoodWe Lynx F G2: the smart modular choice

For homes pairing solar with a separate hybrid inverter, the GoodWe Lynx F G2 battery remains one of the most popular storage options on the market. Designed to work seamlessly with the GoodWe EHB hybrid inverter, this modular system delivers performance, flexibility, and long-term reliability.
The Lynx F G2 offers scalable capacity from 6.4 kWh up to 19.2 kWh for single-phase systems, and up to 28.8 kWh for three-phase systems. Up to eight stacks can be connected in parallel, providing a total capacity of up to 230 kWh.
When paired with the GoodWe EHB hybrid inverter, homeowners benefit from real-time smart energy management, 200 % PV oversizing, and blackout protection, all in a system designed for efficiency and longevity. Together, they offer a future-proof energy solution that grows as the household’s needs evolve.
All GoodWe batteries use Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4 or LFP), one of the safest chemistries on the market, due to their strong chemical bonds, which provide high thermal stability.
Powering homes today and tomorrow
As energy prices rise and the grid comes under strain, Australians are turning to home solar and energy systems that keep things simple. The GoodWe ESA and the Lynx F G2 make home storage easier, safer, and more accessible, whether for new solar installations or upgrades. The ESA, scalable to six towers in parallel, gives households and small businesses room to grow while keeping installation quick and costs low.
With the Cheaper Home Batteries Program driving record adoption, the ESA and the Lynx F G2 are perfectly positioned to power the next generation of Australian homes.
